“Dashain Festival is one of the most important Hindu festival which is celebrated all over Nepal delightfully. This festival usually falls in the month of September or October and is actually celebrated for 15 days. It starts from bright lunar fortnight (Shukla Paksha) and ends on the day of full moon (Poornima) according to Nepalese annual calendar. Hindus greatest festival, Dashain honors a great conquest of the gods over the evil demons. The symbol of power, Goddess Durga is worshiped during this festival.” [*]

Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedefleri, diğer bir deyişle Küresel Hedefler, yoksulluğu ortadan kaldırmak, gezegenimizi korumak ve tüm insanların barış ve refah içinde yaşamasını sağlamak için evrensel eylem çağrısıdır. Bu 17 Hedef, Binyıl Kalkınma Hedeflerinin başarılarının üzerine inşa edilmekte; bir yandan da diğer önceliklerin yanı sıra iklim değişikliği, ekonomik eşitsizlik, yenilikçilik, sürdürülebilir tüketim, barış ve adalet gibi yeni alanları içeriyor. “The case for intensification has been well articulated in the literature, both from a perspective of increased production, through high-yielding crops, increased irrigation, mechanization, and the role of chemicals that increase production levels, and from a conservation perspective, in terms of the millions of hectares of forests which otherwise would be converted into farm land, unquantifiable amount of ecosystem services saved, and of some 590 billion tons of CO2 prevented from being released into the atmosphere.”

This talk is about the challenge of feeding an increasingly hungry world against a backdrop of resource degradation, inefficiencies, loss and waste, and the impacts of a changing climate. The state of affairs in many of these are far from desirable, and some are projected to worsen as the competition for natural resources increases. Yet, there is reason for optimism, manifested in some of the trends that we are now observing and in the resolve of the international community, that is, governments, civil society and private sector to address the challenge.
